I now have a job. I have been at it for more than a fortnight now. It is not exciting. I mean, it’s exciting that I have a job and an income, but the job itself is not exciting. It’s working on the app of an insurance company. I can only hope that it is stable and somewhat rewarding for a while. It looks like I’ll be involved in some tricky work. It feels about as corporate as you’d expect.

Things to note:

  • I don’t deal well with unemployment. I find it very difficult to manage my own time when I don’t have a job to go to.
  • I don’t like the interview process that is currently popular in software development. Having to spend time on code tests is extremely tiring.
  • I like a 37.5 hour work week. 40 hours feels too long.
  • Onboarding almost always fails.
  • Background checks are irritating.

Hopefully I won’t have to do this again for a little while. I will try to figure out a better approach for job hunting. Probably dealing with all the mental health issues before I start looking for a job would be a good idea.
